Kathleen Zelmanski

Kathleen A. McQuitty, 51, of Mount Clemens, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007. She was born Nov. 6, 1955, in Detroit. Mrs. McQuitty was employed as an office manager for Wolverine Plating Co. in Roseville. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of various leagues over the years. Relatives described her as a devoted family person who made beautiful and creative greeting cards for herself and others. She also enjoyed stamping. Mrs. McQuitty was a member of AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Post 57, Harper Woods. Her zest for life included the beauty of nature, her flower garden, books she read, her ability to solve crossword puzzles and the fun she had playing euchre. Her family said she was blessed to have shared precious moments with her first grandchild, Vance Mitchell Louzon, who was born Dec. 16, 2006. She is survived by her husband, Barry; daughters, Lara Leigh (Gene) Louzon of Melvindale and Lindsey Ann Marquardt of Mount Clemens; grandson, Vance; parents, Leo and Dolores (nee Rosinski) Zelmanski Jr.; brothers, Donald (Nona) Zelmanski of Harrison Township, Michael (Diane) Zelmanski of Wixom and Richard (Kathleen) Zelmanski of Clinton Township; sisters, Denise (John) Nemeth of St. Clair and Cheryl (Phil LaSota) Zelmanski of Clinton Township; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Additional details from Kathleen's daughter, Lindsey:

My mom was diagnosed w/ Hodgkin's Disease in 1996 or 1997 & battled for 10 long years. She had been in & out of the hospital countless times. She went through Chemo, radiation, blood transplants & bone marrow transplants. Lost her hair multiple times & at one point her ability to walk. She was determined & never let it get her down. She went through therapy & learned how to walk again. Just in time to make it down the aisle, w/ only the assistance of a cane, for my sister's wedding. She was in not remission, but her cancer had not changed in size for quite sometime. However, she was informed in the summer of 2006 that her cancer spots had grown/spread. In Oct, she wound up in the hospital, in ICU, (where she remained for 4 months, till Feb). In Dec, my sister had her 1st child, my mom's 1st grandchild. In Jan, she was allowed to see him for a few minutes. In Feb, she passed away, surrounded by her family. My sister has had another child since then. I have her class ring & wear it from time to time :)

I knew Kathy from our years at Eastland Elementary., and we did many things together over the course of many years.  We were always laughing about something, even when that was not the thing to do.   Those were good times, which I remember fondly.  She is the mother of two beautiful daughters.  No longer suffering, I hope that Kathy has found a place of rest and peace.

Lindsey,

Even though I did not know your mom personally, your tribute to your mom was wonderful!   You can be very

proud of her!

Love,

I remember Kathy in school with her friends Becky Lehnert and Joyce Martell.  At lunch you always saw the girls together laughing and just having a good time.  I'm sorry to hear of her difficult battle with cancer, but I'm glad to hear she made it long enough to welcome her grandchild to this world.  Kathy, rest peacefully.
